Today I have launched my brand new website (at last I hear you say!), which meant there was an empty blog page because I failed to save my old blog posts and archive them for you on here. Not a big problem really considering that the last blog post was back in January...
Getting back to the reason for the title above, is that I have spent some time on the phone today with the company who support my domain, helping to redirect the DNS settings to the new website. And what a pleasant and entertaining experience it has been!
Personality profiling tends to indicate that 'techies' are generally more introverted, preferring systems and analysis over dealing with people, and yet the two technical experts who have helped me today have been chatty, friendly (genuinely), keen to help, one of them was even singing the EastEnders theme tune in French to me - that's another story...
And so my inaccurate belief and sweeping generalisation that 'all techies are introverts' and would rather be hidden behind a screen inputting data and fiddling with code, rather than chatting with customers has been pleasantly overturned.
Personality profiling is a valuable tool for understanding your natural strengths, attributes and values, just remember to use it wisely and ensure that you are not slotted into a pigeon hole which makes assumptions about what you can and can't do. It's a great starting place for a conversation about your natural strengths and when you are most 'in flow', and it helps you to recognise when you are 'out of flow'.
A profiling tool like Talent Dynamics is particularly powerful when used with teams, helping them to work more effectively and efficiently together - in flow. That's another blog post...
And if you're interested, the company I was talking about is called Eclipse http://www.eclipse.net.uk/, so if you want some techie help with a smile and a song, give them a call!
