Handling Conflict - some questions...

  • Step back and consider what's really happening - what are the facts?
  • Step into the other person’s shoes – what do you think is going on for them?
  • Remember, you can’t change the other person, only your response to them or the situation
  • How do you feel about the other person? What could change the way you perceive them?
  • Consider what you could do differently to resolve the situation – how can you take some responsibility?
  • If you are avoiding talking about the ‘Elephant in the Room’, what’s stopping you?
  • Write down the benefits of sharing how you are feeling about the situation
  • Consider your personality style and that of the other person – is this causing the conflict?
    • If yes, what can you do to accommodate your colleague’s style?
  • Respect is built on trust – what can you do to develop a more trusting relationship with the other person?
  • If you were to give a colleague some advice on how to handle this kind of situation – what would you suggest?
